About Me

The music for the VoKate album was created by layering a series of looping vocal melodies and sound effects, all of which were created organically by Kate Westfall. Rhythms were made through body-actions of the feet, hands, arms, mouth, collarbone, and SO MUCH MORE. The exception to the organic purity is "Private Scientist" which includes Kate's keyboard and pencil scratchings among other aural teasings, with assistance from audio technician Eric Barnett.

Kate Westfall's live performances include live vocal looping, digital rhythms, occasional hand drums, spoken word, and even digeridoo.

VoKate was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Eric Barnett.

QUOTES
"Westfall is very timely in this age of cynicysm. Her lyrics and poetry are very refreshing, thought provoking, and at times, very, very funny."
-David Miller, Loveland Magazine

"'Vokate' gathers a wide range of influences to create a lush new musical world." "Westfall's music isn't so much emerging from one place or style as it is an ocean touching upon the shores of many lands...creating a lush, seductive musical fabric that sweeps the listener away." "She builds her world in loops and layers, pyramids of sounds and watery harmonies." "Her vocal range is impressive, going from a throaty alto to a sweet soprano while at the same time freely traveling along the continuum from folk style to polished poise."
-Mark Jordan, Mount Vernon News

"Sounds sort of like Sweet Honey in the Rock meets Imogen Heap."
-jujubeebop, Amie Street

"Very cool mix of a strong bluesy-folk vocal track with a'cappella backing - no instruments, just vocals, but works very well."
-jamieshanks, Amie Street

"Kate Westfall is what would happen if the acappella Camille had an accident with Ollabelle. Rootsy vocal-driven songs with that "down to the river to pray" (O Brother Where Art Thou) feel to them. Original and fantastic."
-TheTheory, Amie Street

"Strong vocal and a'cappella backing mix - really strong, rich voice too, worth a listen :)"
-jamieshanks, Amie Street
