I've been writing songs since the mid 70s, with styles ranging from pub rock, through salsa-esque and bossa nova, to pop and contemplative / ambient and worship.
I run a church in Central London - St James the Less, Pimlico. We have an extraordinary building - beautiful , atmospheric, not too big: just right for acoustic / ambient / thoughtful / funny / interesting / satisfying / joyful evenings. In September we're starting a new series of eclectic arts events called Friday Night Proposal so I'm looking for emerging (and some more established) artists of various kinds to take part. Contact me to discuss, or for details. Check out: Friday Night Proposal
I do quite a bit of prayer with percussion, particuarly the Cajon, and recently ran a workshop on this. The track "Create" is just udu, acoustic guitar and loop pedal.
My other songs here are:
Man with a Smile (2006) - for a friend who was trying to be everything to everyone. When he had a breakdown he ended up finding more of himself.
Restless - I watched a slightly bizarre and rather sad documentary on gigolos in London, which inspired this little piece of ska.
Exploration of U - another love song for my wife
She's Got More written for Ruth on the occasion of our 25th wedding anniversary in 2005. This song has a chord rooted on every one of the 12 semitones in the standard scale - a complete song for the complete woman! The intro and outro are closely inspired by the fabulous Dave Edmunds track "Queen of Hearts" on his "Repeat When Necessary" album.
My Wife Plays the Saxophone (1988) - it's true - but not all the song is totally true - you decide which bits are fantasy! By the way - I'm playing Ruth's sax on this, which accounts for the somewhat rudimentary sound. I've never played it before, except once 15 years when I spent all afternoon with the mouthpiece on upside down!
