The Greater Welfare of the Public at Sporting Events is an interest group who focuses on the rights of fans and spectators at sporting events. We feel that the first amendment has been slowly deteriorating at these events; fans where once able to express themselves at these events without the fear of being ejected from the game. Some of the rights that fans used to practice where: cheering for their team, hazing the opponent players, or convening in groups. Slowly however, an excuse has been made for the impairment of these rights; they are trying to keep the event family oriented.
If an event is meant to be family oriented, why is there alcohol present? The only reason for this is additional profits. However, not only will they overprice the alcoholic drinks but they will do all this with the expectation that the fans will act appropriately. That is far from the truth, alcohol has been known to impair judgment and cause people to act in an extreme manner. Therefore, it does not make sense to put the family environment in jeopardy by selling these alcoholic drinks, when the purpose is creating a socially enjoyable environment.
Another aspect of GWPSE is to increase the exposure of rules and regulations. The reason to why we believe the fans rights or rules in the stadium have been obscure or excluded have been to increase the power of the enforcers. If the fans do not know they’re rights they can not complain or argue against them. However, fans have the RIGHT to now what they can or can not say. Otherwise, the fans will attend the event with the intention that anything that can be done outside the sporting event can also be done within the stadium. To eject them out of the game for rules that were not stated not only seems unconstitutional but immoral.
GWPSE not only focuses on attaining answers to why these hypocritical regulations but also encourages fans to stand up for their rights. Fans should have as much rights as anyone within that stadium, and till then we will continue working diligently in achieving these rights for the fans and spectators. In order to promptly respond to any comments or concerns, please get in contact with the specific group regarding your question.
