Introducing Richard Ensley
The title of Richard Ensley's upcoming record Psalms, Songs & Suicide Notes is creeping out his friends. "I chose this title because it is a beautiful summary of who I am as an artist and a human being." Ensley explained. "I am a man in constant conflict with the three strongest themes in my life...spirituality (psalms), creativity (songs), and emotional stability (suicide notes). I am an extremely passionate individual, so I often have difficulty finding the right balance. With the exception of love, most of the songs on my record deal with a topic that fits into one of those three categories"
Ensley, a Michigan-based singer/songwriter, has been writing tunes for this project for over a year and is currently wrapping up the writing stages. The full length album will feature some of his most painfully honest and intimate work to date. "I just want to say what I feel- Whether or not it is politically correct or morally true." said Ensley "I have noticed that sometimes as Christians we have a tendancy to act like we cant complain about our walk...But I am a frustrated, addiction proned, lovesick, manic depressive that loves God- but sometimes runs from Him, and I am going to sing about it because...'IT'S REAL'."
Most of Richard's songs have been inspired by recent events. "The last year has likely been one of the most bizzare and emotionally unstable years of my life. I have been slipping in and out of sanity and stability on a daily basis. Lose 20 pounds...gain 20 pounds, quit smoking...start drinking, grow spiritually...fall spiritually. I told somebody recently that I sit around and write songs about life while other people go out and live theirs. I guess thats just the irony that comes with being an artist".
