HERCULES project

The most popular of all Greek heroes, Hercules was worshipped all over Greece, as well as celebrated in stories, sculptures, paintings, and even in the geography of the ancient world.
Hercules was said to be the son of Zeus and Alcmene and showed his potentiality while a baby by strangling two snakes which Hera had sent to kill him in his cradle.
All his famous exploits derive from his strength and courage, the most famous being his Twelve Labours. Most of these feats are elaborations on the theme of a struggle with and conquest of death.
Was there a real Hercules, a man behind the stories? We will never know. Yet, his story is of a man who was so strong and courageous, whose deeds were so mighty, and who so endured all the hardships that were given to him, that when he died, Hercules was brought up to Mount Olympus to live with the gods.
Through a mix of performance, music and iconic imagery, the HERCULES project explores the man, myth and legend.
