About Me

Steve Byrne has lived in Southern New Jersey all of his life. The last thirty years of that life have been devoted to ragtime blues guitar. He specializes in finger picking, traditional blues and rag guitar from the 20's and 30's, in the Piedmont (Southeastern US) style, and has played in various venues up and down the East Coast, from Maine to South Carolina. Steve peppers his performances with anecdotes to both entertain and inform, saluting the oral tradition of passing on the background of the songs, and to salute the authors behind them."King Eider" is a performer and also a preservationist, keeping both the spirit and the integrity of the country blues alive. Country blues can tend to be very simplistic on the surface and lend itself to stylization. However, Steve dedicates himself to making his renditions as close to the original flavor as possible. His worthy goal is to capture the essence of what the originals were and to effectively convey to the listener an accurate glimpse of the pre-war blues scene.
