Born March 24, 1808 into the famed Garcia family of singers, Maria Malibran aspired to become one of the world's most highly regarded, temperamental divas of the operatic stage. After a horse riding accident, Malibran died at the age of 28, yet, even in death, the great Romantic heroine provided inspiration to great artists such as Chopin, Donizetti, Liszt, Mendelssohn, and Rossini.
