Brothers-in-law Jason Thurston (guitar) and Mel Davenport (drums) hail from the deepest darkest Highlands of Scotland sharing a love for all things metal and progressive and talent to play it loudly themselves.
They began jamming together at home around 5 years ago, as a hobby and soon enough were laying down their own tracks. Jason, being a local guitar tutor began using these tracks in his lessons and was met with mighty enthusiasm from his pupils who desperately wanted to hear more! After almost a year playing together it was clear Mel and Jase wanted to continue on a more serious level.
Soon enough Mucus had written and home recorded a number of tracks for folk to sample and there were instant whispers of their first live performance.
For this it was off to Glasgow's no.1 live venue for unsigned bands "Nice n' Sleazy's". Mucus were apprehensive that with simply lead guitar and drums, the crowd would be looking for more... However, Mucus went ahead and unusually (hence proving their Metal ways!!!) actually headlined this first ever gig and gained masses of noisy support from the unsuspecting crowd.
Support at this gig came from the late "Fickle Public" and "Carson" and the gig was opened by "Some Young Pedro" who are still making furious noise on Scotland's music scene. It was a night remembered by all in attendance and is still talked about fondly over many a frothy beverage!
These were, as we say "the first drips" and hence seeped out, the mighty...Mucus
Since then Mucus have played as much as possible including a slot with Glasgow's well loved, Terra Diablo (Nocturnal Records) and in the Highlands, support to Dark Water at the UCI Downhill World Championships 2007 (which they have again been invited to play in 2008 - gig details will be posted soon)
Mucus have also begun recording with Davy McCauley (previously of Terra Diablo) in Glasgow's Chem 19 recording studio. (He's awesome!)
