Webster’s dictionary states that a craft is an occupation or trade requiring manual dexterity or artistic skill, and lists the definition of art as skill acquired by experience, study, or observation, or something produced as an artistic effort or for decorative purposes. The definition of an artist lists the word meaning someone who professes and practices an imaginative art.The United Crafting Society strides to bring all of these words together by connecting artisans in East Tennessee no matter what medium. We want people who consider themselves crafty, consider themselves an artist, or maybe just imaginative. We want to bring together people who look everywhere for inspiration for their craft, whether it’s a new painting, photograph, or simply a new quilting pattern. Everywhere in life is art, and if you produce something handmade that is stylish, or if you produce paintings worthy of a museum, we invite you to participate with us.We will strive to have meetings that will bring together everyone to brainstorm about having craft and art shows, and to talk about new techniques and what everyone is working on. We want a friendly place for everyone to give feedback and share ideas so that our creativity can grow. We plan to involve as much of the east Tennessee area as we can so that we can help everyone no matter if they live in Knoxville, Chattanooga, or live in the rural areas.We don’t want to be a group that just does a lot of talking without any benefit of our members. Members are like seeds, and together we can all grow! You don’t have to run your own business or want to sell a painting to join, we invite all people who are creative no matter what you do! Just send us a invite to get the ball rolling as we start out on this great experience.
