Saphire Starr was born in Sweden and is an actress, model and guitar player for punk bands Gutterflower and Checkpoint Charlie.
Aged 14 she formed the band Checkpoint Charlie with Senator Clash, Lonnie Lindstrom and Charlie White. Checkpoint Charlie was named after the famous East German border crossing and was inspired from Saphires time spent as a child behind the Wall.
CHECKPOINT CHARLIE released the controversial SEX STARR CD featuring the kiss between Leonid Brezhnev and Eric Honecker on the cover which at the time was deemed immoral and now is credited with creating awareness and and acceptance of homosexuality in the Eastern bloc countries. Some of the best Checkpoint Charlie songs from SEX STARR are PUNKOW, Kiss me Baby, S.T.A.S.I., Pink in Moscow.,and 10km from the East .
Gutterflower were formed after the breakup of Checkpoint Charlie in 1992 and featured Saphire Starr on guitar, Gutterboy on vocals, Mayflower on drums, and Rockin Ruediger on bass. Gutterflower started in Sweden and toured the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, Japan and the USA. Gutterflowers first CD was called HOPE and spurned the legendary TOILET LOVERS tour which went for a year leading all members to take a break for one month after THE TOILET LOVERS tour due to exhaustion. The next Gutterflower CD was called PORNO and another long world tour took place to support the CD. The band relocated to Los Angles after Mayflower fell in love with a Porn Star and wanted to live in Hollywood. This began the Hollywood party period and is often described with varying degrees of debauchery.
Saphire Starr featured in many music videos,commercials, art films, doumentaries and movies during the Hollywood period. Along the way Saphire Starr was a model for underwear, fetish clothes and high class runway fashion and has worked in London, Milan, New York and Tokyo. Saphire has calenders which have become collectors items and are in limited editions as artworks.
Gutterflower are currently in pre production for their next CD called Blood, Sweat, Tears and Chanel and recording starts in Febuary in Los Angeles. At present Saphire divides her time betwen Los Angeles, Europe and Australia and is looking forward to her next acting role in a movie called GIRLS BEHAVING BADLY.
