What's the Deal Family, I know I haven't been on here as much as I once was but looking for a job can make ju tired of getting on the computer! I am still doing good and for those of ju that don't know the BEAT 104.9 is no more and I have been spending A LOT of time with my daughter!!! She is getting really use to me being home all day and has turned into my shadow. So I have turned into Mr. Mom for real! For those of ju new to my page or don't know me, read below for the bio! I will updated with what's goin' doun!!!I go by the name "Dat Chico" Rico. To give you a little history, I was born down south in Weslaco, TX and spent most of his younger childhood moving between Houston and the Rio Grande Valley. This is the reason he is able to make friends so fast and win people over! Rico also spent a lot of time moving during college, attending colleges in 3 cities including Concordia University here in Austin (for a year before they helped pack his bags an ask him to leave!), but he FINALLY graduated from what he considers his home town, the University of Houston in 2003 with a Bachelors in Media Production.
Rico started off his eight year radio career in promotions which is how he learned to interact with people, plus he had to learn fast being the one of the only people with any pigmentation at a country station (100.3 KILT). He then moved on to the music he loves, Hip Hop, at Power 97.5 and then over to Party 104.9 both in Houston. After 3 years of trying to get on-air at different stations across the nation, Alix Q and Mike Pierce came calling to give him his 1st shot on-air as the late night jock at 96.1 the Beat in the RGV! Three months later, Dusty Hayes wanted to see if he was ready to take the next step in Austin!!!!
After 3 years of Keepin' it Tight at Night, and leaving as the #1 night jock in the city, Rico's Corner was moved to Afternoons Drive (2pm-7pm). I inherited the #1 Mix Show in the ATX, with the 5 O'clock Beat Down with the Breakmaster DJ 2DQ and even though we weren't able to make the same kind of impact in the Afternoon as he did at night (time restraint and station flip).
