I am an artist-run gallery. They call me "a safe venue for unsafe art". That means: it matters little if the the work within my walls is for sale or not. Commercial viability is overrated, I want art that challenges, or makes people cry, or think, disgusted, aroused or elated. Politics, sexuality, aesthetics, it's all free game here, so long as someone throws a brick through something.
