Over a decade in the electronic music movement in Los Angeles, Nathan Phillips (also known as DJ N8) has touched minds, bodies, and souls with his musical talent. Starting out as a regular party goer back in the early 90's he was influenced by top artists such as Doc Martin, DJ Dan , Simply Jeff, John Kelley, Sandra Collins, DJ Icey, Bassbin Twins, and Norman Cook just to name a few. In 1996 he began djing in his garage with a variety of electronic music genres like trance, breaks, techno, dnb and house. Breaks was his original calling card but soon after he found his true calling in house music.
With years of playing backyard boogaloos all over Harbor Area (South Bay) and small clubs in Hermosa Beach, he then was discovered by Systems Insane (Lostboy, Capsule, and Decrypted) in 1998. Systems Insane took L.A.'s underground by storm throwing numerous events throughout Southern California for years and playing tons of events in Arizona, Chicago, Colorado, Mexico, San Francisco, New Jersey and New York until late 2001 when the crew finally grew apart from one another and moved on.
In 1999 DJ N8 founded Funk Potion Entertainment, a collaboration/crew of artists which has grown ever since, throwing and hosting events for others from rave parties to massive parties in the underground. In late 2001, DJ N8 moved to the East Coast for a few years taking a rest from the scene and recollecting certain values. Not long after, about 3 years, he returned to L.A. and was welcomed back to the scene with open arms from long time friends, Addicted Events and Tyco Productions, which he joined forces with playing memorable sets for all to hear. He is now a current resident for Addicted Events and is very proud to be with one of the best rave crew establishments the L.A. scene has ever witnessed. In the crew is some of the best djs L.A. has to offer such as Jason Splat, Dj Immortal, Dj Wires, Thee-O, and Fx- Logik.
After many years of late night dj jam sessions, DJ N8 aka Nathan Phillips wanted to take it further. He created Da Elephunks in 2006 as a collaboration project between various djs & musicians, leaning towards studio production and live performance and now with the other half of the duo as J.Splat (aka Jason Dey) bringing his slice of funk to the making. With 3 tracks already produced, 'Groove with it', 'The music sounds better with us', and 'Love', Da Elephunks are making a name for themselves & picking up steam bringing their style of funk to the underground.
In 2007, DJ N8 grew out of certain surrounding environments and wanted the world and himself to see who he really is, Nathan Phillips. Now rising up with the new calling he still rocks the crowds, young and old, generation to generation of party goers, and from small events to massive parties bringing you all the funk to make you break and shake all night long, with more intensity and more diversity in his sets pleasing every open ear on the dance floor in our beloved electronic music scene.
