History:
In the fall of 2004, the Lord led Lou Engle with a group of young people to come and pray for the elections in Washington, D.C. Through many prophetic words and dreams, the Lord led them to be praying for President Bush and his destiny to be used to limit, if not overthrow abortion through his presidency. Shortly after, Lou was praying over two dreams he just received in which we were building a house next to the White House. In both dreams we were stretching a measuring line out over the White House. The Holy Spirit led him to Zech 1:10 "'I am returning to Jerusalem (D.C.) with mercy. My house shall be built in it," says the Lord of hosts, 'and a surveying (measuring) line shall be stretched over Jerusalem (D.C.)"' Riveted by this passage, he prayed for a building as close to the Supreme Court, Capitol, and White House, where we could begin day and night governmental intercession. These prayers were soon to be answered in a remarkable way. Within a short time of our arrival in D.C. an upper room opened up in one of the most strategic locations on Capitol Hill. For years this room had been prayed over by intercessors and dedicated as a house of prayer. As soon as we walked in we knew it was the place. The room is literally shaped like an arrowhead. From the Capitol Hill location on can stretch a measuring line down Pennsylvania Avenue through the Capitol building and straight toward the White House. Even though the high demand property is costly in D.C., the Spirit bid us, "Buy the field." God confirmed we were to be there, when the very same day we say the property, a man wrote us a $7,000 check for the first month's rent. As further confirmation, another man wrote another $7,000 check the next day. Then the Justice House of Prayer was officially established.
In the September of 2005, through many prophetic words and dreams, the Lord led Lou Engle to send a team, led by his son Jesse, to San Francisco, California. During a time when prophets prophesied judgment, the Lord led them to Ezekiel 22:30: "I sought for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found no one." They began to cry for mercy on behalf of San Francisco and the for deliverance of the homosexual community. Then the Justice House of Prayer San Francisco was officially established.
Vision:
JHOP (the Justice House of Prayer) exists to raise up a house of prayer to contend with every other house that challenges the Lordship and supremacy of Christ over all affairs.
JHOPSF (the Justice House of Prayer San Francisco) exists to see freedom, revival, repentance, and holiness break out in San Francisco, California, America, and the nations by a nazirite lifestyle of prayer, fasting, and community birthed by the Holy Spirit.
Our prayer mandates include:
Homosexuality
God has led us to contend for the deliverance and redemption of the homosexual community, believing that those who have been forgiven much will surely love much. (Luke 7:47) Out of this community will arise extravagant lovers of God who will worship him with creative expression and devotion. We have a mandate to stand against the homosexual agenda that raises itself up against the knowledge of God and seeks to destroy the identity of our generation.
Abortion
We believe that abortion is the greatest injustice of our day. God's word tells us in Genesis 9:5 that innocent bloodshed demands a reckoning. More than 4,000 children are aborted every day in our nation since the decision of Roe v. Wade in 1973. Although this seems overwhelming, we know that there is a better blood in the blood of Jesus - a blood that can cover even the blood of over 50,000,000 babies. (Hebrews 12:24) God has clearly spoken to us that the answer to this injustice is adoption. The church should be the catalyst in a movement of adoption in our nation. With our state's societal and legislative influence in our nation, it is critical that California becomes a pro-life state. The cultures and rulings that emanate from California will affect the United Sates as well as the nations.
Revival
"When there is no hope for a nation, when there is no remedy, God still has a holy prescription."
- Lou Engle
"And rend your heart and not your garments." Now return to the LORD your God, For He is gracious and compassionate, Slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindness And relenting of evil. Who knows whether He will not turn and relent and leave a blessing behind Him, Even a grain offering and a drink offering For the LORD your God? Blow a trumpet in Zion, Consecrate a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly."
- Joel 2:13-15
We are praying for the heart of America to turn back to God in a massive wave of repentance and brokenness that would bring revival and restoration to our land.
Israel
Our commitment to pray for Israel, their restoration, and their salvation comes from the word of God and we believe that it is the duty of every follower of Jesus. More personally as a ministry, we received a dream that the Lord was speaking to us that "It would please my body and my blood if you would pray for Israel 15 minutes a day before the setting of the sun."
Core Values:
Intimacy with Jesus
Intimacy with Jesus is our ultimate mandate and reward.
24/7 Worship and Prayer
With an unending chorus of worship and ceaseless prayer, we desire to minister to the Lord day and night and to cry out for "speedy justice"(Luke 18) from one geographical location. In essence, our desire is to move beyond normal prayer meetings to inspire and nurture a culture of prayer (Isaiah 56:7; Psalm 132)
The Scriptures: the Word of God
"You read books to borrow from them the force to stimulate your activity, but I read books searching for the one who has written them." - Vincent Van Gogh. The Bible is the eternal (Matthew 24:35, infallible (Psalm 12:6), unhindered (2 Timothy 2:9), and inspired (2 Timothy 3:16) Word of God and as such, we desire to search out the Scriptures to better understand them and apply them to our lives.
Governmental Intercession
Interceding "for kings and all those in authority"(1 Timothy 2:1-3) is a priority. We desire to see the transformation of our governments to reflect the Kingdom of God that is built on righteousness and justice.
Nazirite Consecration/Fasted Lifestyle
Like John the Baptist, we desire to live a fasted lifestyle because of our devotion to the Bridgegroom, Jesus. Thus, we voluntarily refuse the legitimate pleasures of this world (Number 6) for the extreme pleasure of knowing God (Psalm 16). This passion for Jesus is born not of legalism, but out of love.
Community / Missions Base
To us, community living is the best option. We intentionally desire to live in community because we desire to be one in heart and mind Acts 4:32) in our pursuit of God. We are praying for land and housing so that we can provide for those called to minister to the Lord on a full-time basis, and take in interns who feel called to spend a season of their lives in the house of prayer.
Covenant Relationships
The notion of covenant and covenant relationships is a profound Scriptural value that we desire to walk out within the community. Our relationships, then, are not merely humanistic friendships, but God-centered and God-ordained.
Prophetic Ministry/Dreams
We desire to be a "company of prophets" who seek to be friends that the Lord can share his secret counsel with (Amos 3:7, Genesis 18:17, Joel 2:28). We value the prophetic because it enhances our relationship with the Lord and because it is a helpful and useful guide.
Spiritual Influence through Aggressive Prayer and Fasting
The Scriptures make it clear that "the kingdom of Heaven suffers violence and the violent take it by force" (Matthew 11:12). To that end, we engage in aggressive prayer and intercession to gain "air supremacy"(Daniel 10)for the in-break of the Holy Spirit and societal reformation.
Generational Transfer
In the last days, the Lord promised to send the Spirit of Elijah who would "turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and the hearts of the children to the fathers" (Malachi 4:5-6). Thus, we are committed to the principle of generational transfer through fathering and discipleship.
Holy Activism
Because of the urgency of the hour, we believe that the House of Prayer needs to be a hotbed of holy activism by "putting feet" to our prayers.
