Destined for stardom since birth, the Las Vegas native Yakira Lawson is no stranger to the world of music. Growing up in a family immersed in music Yakira began her harmonious road in the church singing along side her father. As she grew and her voice developed, she began singing with her church’s praise team. All the while, her love for music and entertaining became her destiny. Yakira began competing in local talent shows gaining great admiration from her peers. After showcasing her talent and gaining exposure she was invited to a local talent show that would change her life and begin her dream. This talent show was put on by Sony, and as expected Yakira didn’t disappoint. She won the contest which quickly caught the attention of guest judge, Tamyra Alexander, who embraced Yakira’s talent and took her to meet “Doe†Henderson who is the CEO of local record label Dynasty Records. There the star was officially born into her fate as one of Dynasty’s new up and coming stars right behind multi-talented label mate Mishon Ratliff who is already taking the music industry by storm.
Since the life changing moment this 16-year-old musical stand out has been working non stop, teaming up with producers/songwriters such as; Dwight “King Pin†Watson (Mishon, Prince Charles, Mic Little), Jon John, (Jagged Edge, TLC, Job B) and Jeremy Green. With a cast like this, this young talented teen will surely be a force in the music industry. With shows around the states in cities such as Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and her latest stop Cleveland where she was apart of a tour entitled “Stop the Violence,†Yakira is building up quite the fan base. Yakira is influenced by many artists such as Ne-Yo, Keri Hilson, and Beyonce, but has her own sound as heard on her first single which is a remake of the classic Hi-Five record “The Kissing Game.†“The Kissing Game†is followed by her new single, “Myspace Friend†which features new comer Lil Gavin Gray as they sing about teen love on the ever popular social site Myspace.com. It is a sure teen R&B classic that everyone can relate to and will defiantly push Yakira into the mainstream.
