Djaga emptied cans on the streets ever since 1983. He got inspired by the dynamic Hiphop culture when it emerged in the early eighties. Artist like Run DMC, Grandmaster Flash, Slick Rick, T La Rock, Public Enemy, BDP, Just Ice, Big Daddy Kane, Eric B & Rakim, Stetsasonic, Mantronix, N.W.A, Schoolly D and Graffiti artists like Lee, Seen, Dondi, Mode2, Bando just to name a few…inspired Djaga to create. Around 1989 Djaga started to produce beats and rhymes. Djaga is the founder of Hiphop bands like Y.M.I and Ancient Scriptures. In 1994 Djaga and his band Y.M.I made their first video clip "Pancras East". They won the European Cultural Festival Award. He produced three tracks for the album “From Streets to Stages” in 1995, and in 1997 they made their second video clip “The Reason in you”. His band Ancient Scriptures won the Dutch Price in the year 2001 and started performing around the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. In 2003 Ancient Scriptures made their last video clip entitled “The Show” a few months later the crew fell apart and each went their own way.
Djaga started to produce music-scores around the year 2004 for theater and multi disciplined stage performances. His first music score was for the theater play “Chitchat Blues” and furthermore several stage-plays like: "Mixed Identities", "Lost in the city" and "Identity Matters". Djaga & C.J produced the Hiphop album "Blueprint - The morning shapes the night" in the year 2005, an album that covers the complicated Eurasian history. It takes you way back to the 16th century when colonization was a world issue, and actually still is, and where people were born of mixed race and culture. A journey along the landscapes of time to the present. Djaga and his musical partner C.J composed four songs with the Royal Dutch Marine Orchestra. Beside guest-appearances and album featurings for the likes of Poor Man Friend, he produced tracks for mc's like Mic-Nif, Pape-Man, Dice Rollz, Nu-Clear Family, Ms- Irma, Da Bozzo and several others. In the year 2006 Djaga started working on the Hiphop documentary entitled "Explore Boundaries"(still in progress) a documentary about the Hiphop culture in Indonesia.
Ceremonial Cycles
His solo album “Ceremonial Cycles” will be released September (2009). With “Ceremonial Cycles”, his first solo album, Djaga sparks the atmosphere with beats, rhymes and life. In “What kinda world” Djaga spits... “A world of cultural conflicts, miscommunication, Since the cradle of mankind among the global population, Invasions, aggressions and battles with Satan’s disciples, Between heaven and hell, where earthlings dwell with rifles, Tribal wars, depicted in epics and ancient titles, angels and demons battle for supremacy in the bible” Throughout the whole album “Ceremonial Cycles” he shifts from revolutionary rebellious music with protesting and enigmatic lyrics, to feel good vibes with personal reflections. A combination that reflects his life and surroundings. In the song “Illosophy” Djaga explains his travels through the landscapes of the mind. “Denying our existence leads to a contradiction, We try to establish relations between science and fiction, Is your existence caused by the existence of another? The color that I see, the same as my brother receives”Besides working on his solo album"Ceremonial Cycles" he's currently working on several music projects with artists like the soulful "Ms. Irma" with who he’s working on the album entitled “ONE LOVE” and with Hiphop producer "Madrotter" he's doing a split production album. Be on the lookout for this classic banger.
