About Me
Ok so it starts like this (and my dad wakes me up bright and early every year for my birthday to tell me this story so I am very well versed, lol).......I was born in a snow storm January 20, 1978 (that year will change as i get older, lol) at Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC. As soon as i came into the world my mom fell asleep and my dad and i talked all night about jazz and the world (so he says, lol). Anyway long story short i was born to Karima St.Clair the fabulous flight attendant and Ron St.Clair my drummer/photographer/teacher/ FATHER. I was born and raised in dc and stayed there until the age of 16 when i went away to college. I started out going to Morgan State, but alas I wanted to be further away from home and closer to my friends, who at the time all happened to be in school in Atlanta. So after 2 years at Morgan I was off to Clark Atlanta University! While i was there i had an internship at WCLK on campus and another at V103, which turned into a part-time production gig. I was also moonlighting at the Gold Club (shhhh...i was a waitress, what else would i do there? lol). Atlanta, another world another culture. Wow the good ol' days shout out to all the AUC alumni that remembers Funk Jazz. Anway three years lata (so what i transferred i got an excuse!) i move to Philadelphia to be close enough to my parents that if they need me im there, but far enough that we dont have to get on each others nerves. I got my first Philly gig at Power 99 as a Promotions assistant aka STREET TEAM. I wiggled my way up and became the producer of the best damn night show that was in Philly...The Hot Boyz with Mikey Dread and Poochman. Whew this is tiring to write are yall tired of reading this yet? So anyway, I left Power 99 like 3 years later i think cuz i was tired of the bullshit, lol. I got me a desk job for a while at Ruffnation Records and then went to Rykodisc (a bangin indie record company). Meanwhile, one of my former bosses at Power 99 (Colby Colb) became a boss at the competition, 103.9 the beat (now 100.3 The Beat). So ya know i called him up to congradualte him on the move and he told me bout this show he wanted to do. It was called Sunday Morning Soul and it was right up my alley! Cuz ya know im a soulful chick and i hate the regular shit played on radio most times. Anyways so i got the hosting gig and i was feeding soul to the masses and lovin it! It was great cuz i could finally support all my friends ie. The Black Lily, The Jazzyphatnastees, Aries, Musiq, Bilal, Jaguar Wright, Kindred, the Roots...ya know all my Philly Folks. Anyway after a year that show got cut )-: thanx Colb, lol sike. Anyway Colby gave the the overnight shift everynight. So i treated that shit like my own private stand up, lol. I would come on right before our new morning show, Monie Love and Poochman in the mornings. Anyway longing for more, the producer position of the morning show became open. So i asked to audition for the postion by trying it out for a couple months. And i did....well uh i aint get the producer gig, but i did get a gig...you can now hear me every day on the Monie, Pooch AND LAIYA morning show...;-) Now Im ready to take on the world and make everyone laugh! Next up Laiya the actress! Oh and just in case you ever need some more soul in your life i program all the music for 3 vh-1.com radio stations.
