Maila-Kaarina is a musician and the editor of the rock bilingual (English & Portuguese) webmagazine www.hardblast.com. The only one in Brazil using this concept. She started her career in 1993 playing the keyboards for a thrash metal band called Dust from Misery. Even being a big fan of Rock..n Roll and Hard Rock, lovin.. bands like Whitesnake, Queen, Aerosmith, the 80..s Bon Jovi, Guns ..n Roses and so on, she also loves Heavy and Thrash Metal being really influenced by Ozzy Osbourne, Helloween, Sanctuary, Testament, Megadeth and the old Metallica. In 1996 she quit the band and moved to Finland, her father’s land.There she could research more about gothic, doom metal and some melodic death metal stuff. Fan of bands like Amorphis, Sentenced and Within Temptation she came back to Brazil in 1997 to join the melodic death metal band Asterlot, where she played the keyboards and started doing backing vocals. The band broke up in 1999 and then Maila-Kaarina decided to enroll at a music school in order to learn music theory, singing and violin as a second instrument. After finishing her studies she decided to go on with the music career as a singer. Maila..s career hasn..t been backed only to heavy stuff though, she has sung and played in several projects related to pop music, Brazilian music (MPB), classical, pop rock and soundtracks for experimental theater projects. She also sang in two big and popular cover projects, one called Perdidos na Selva, a tribute to the Brazilian rock bands from the 80..s and Heartbreak Boulevard, a tribute to Hard Rock considered one of the most complete rock cover bands in Rio. Nowadays she..s been singing with the band Varda, a very experienced cover group in a big band shape, that plays everything from the 50..s to recent stuff at parties and nightclubs. On her website she writes about real rock and metal and with this work had the opportunity of interviewing great artists such as Tony Martin (Black Sabbath), Joe Lynn Turner (Rainbow, Deep Purple), Gary Holt (Exodus), Eric Martin (Mr. Big), CJ Snare (Firehouse), Ted Poley (Danger Danger), Michael Clayton (Tyketto), etc.CHECK OUT WWW.HARDBLAST.COM!This is a recent video of my rock ..n roll unplugged cover project COVER-UP TRIO with the musicians Carlos Lösch and Marcus Souza. I really love this song and this is one of my favorite bands.Here you can see a video of an unplugged gig with my partners from Heartbreak Boulevard, a song by Cher called Just Like Jesse James. This video was recorded in 2007 and we were just having fun at a pub, playing these songs for the first time and drinking a few beers.
