In a day where many musicians and sounds are manufactured, Johnny Wright, Jr.
is proud to ‘keep it simple, and keep it real’. He says “this IS your Grandpa’s
music, but it's YOUR music as well, and I’m proud to stay true to it". Wright understands the history of country
music and doesn’t hesitate to say “country music will survive, but it will
continue to be a painful ordealâ€. He follows that up with “We have an entire
generation that have never even heard the young country sound. I call them
potential fans, where a music executive would call them market share.†Wright
notes that “it’s ironic that classical music has survived as long as it has, but
in a matter of a couple decades, and entire genre can be nearly wiped off the
map.â€
Wright says that “when folks come to see me play, they’re going to hear some of
Wayne Hancock, Hank III, Hank Sr., the long list of legends, and then my
original songs with a true to the roots country sound.†He adds “whether it’s a
state fair, an auditorium, or a honky-tonk, folks will get an authentic
experience of country music.â€
On a final note, Wright admits to taking the Maverick route many times in life.
He notes that "not conforming to today's pressures on music styles actually fits
my personality quite well. At the end of the day, I'm glad I stayed true to
myself."
