Scott Page met Phil Blazer in Jan 1992. Soon there after Phil joined in Scott's circle of musical friends. The music then was mostly an eclectic olio of cover tunes from the Cranberries to Bob Dylan and many artists in between. Scott played mostly accoustic/electric guitars and Phil bought a drum set. Somewhere in the mid - 90's Route 550 was born. Both Phil and Scott lived just off the aforementioned road 12 miles apart. Route 550 was dedicated to making experimental ad-lib and widely varied music. Most of the 400(or so) song catalogue of RT. 550 was done in very few takes to ensure a sense of unpredictability and spontaneity: for instance Scott would almost never work out a guitar solo in advance ,but instead let it rip from a couple of listens from the rhythm tracks. It was much the same w/ Phil's drums and keyboard tracks. Later on, Scott's son Damien, an accomplished guitarist/drummer lent his talents to RT. 550 on many Friday evenings. Sometimes RT. 550 was also joined by Damien's musical cohorts Jon Spearly and a few others. RT. 550 continues to meet once a week almost w/o fail and produce original and sometimes selected cover music mostly for their own enjoyment. The whole RT. 550 catalogue is on CD and is a record, or sonic notebook if you will, of their communal experiences making music.
