Set in The early 90’s, Shea Curry, (“Princess Diares 2â€) plays Dana, a recently divorced young woman embarking on an acting career. Months earlier she met a young, charismatic, theater cast-mate, Jack, Michael Buie “(Mystery Alaskaâ€) in the Spring play at the local dinner theater.
They seemingly look like good friends until flashbacks expose their history and brush with romance. Thus, “can a man and woman really be “just friends Jack fumbles through his day as a rookie sports writer for the local paper, and maintains a lifeless relationship with his live-in girlfriend, Carol.
Dana continues working nights for the dinner theater and dog sits during the day.
One beautiful afternoon at the favorite park, Jack divulges to Dana that he has decided to ask Carol to marry him. Dana is shocked, but supportive, which arouses Jack’s attraction for her. He is confused by his feelings and solicits his co-worker Dale, Ellis E. Williams, (“Jackie Brownâ€) for advice.
Married for 25 years to the same wonderful woman, Dale implores how vital a decision like marriage is. Meanwhile, Dana looks for support from her funky, bohemian neighbor, Suzanne, Pam Mahon, (“Bigger Than The Skyâ€). Jack, more torn than ever, gets drunk with his friend Steve, (newcomer Matt Baker) who convinces him to be honest with Dana. In a bold move, Jack races to Dana’s apartment but she has already left to help her best friend, Tina, Kate Albrecht, (HBO’s “Entourageâ€) deliver her baby.
Dana is distracted with a once in a lifetime opportunity to go to LA to audition for a TV show. As their ships continue to pass, time reveals that Dana is more focused on her career that on relationship, even though she has admitted her love for Jack. With an unexpected visit from her loving, but overbearing Mom, Elaine, (veteran stage actress Chrisse Rocarro), Dana realizes she must move to LA to pursue her career.
When Jack unexpectedly shows up at her apartment to find her all packed up, they exchange words, embrace each other’s place in life, and as painful as it is, profess their love for one another. Present day reveals a beautiful, sophisticated, Dana waiting in a restaurant. As Jack joins her they now have a chance to make up for lost time and set things right. “Only For You†is a story about life, love, friendships, choices and believing in ourselves at all costs.
