The Alliance for Sexual and Gender Diversity at Georgia State University is the oldest gay-straight student alliance in Georgia! Founded in 1982, we’re now celebrating 26 years as one of GSU’s most successful student organizations! Since then we’ve grown to be one of the largest chartered student organizations on campus, now with over 600 members.Things to look forward to:In addition to our weekly meetings, which range from informational sessions with our members to outings to local attractions, the Alliance also branches out to help the greater Georgia community through cooperation with other diversity organizations.Some examples include:* Participation in the annual LGBT Leadership Summit held at Kennessaw State University.
* Organizing groups for local events like the Atlanta Pride Festival and AIDS Walk Atlanta.
* Formation of Cinema Q, a new film series that highlights queer and queer-related film offerings.
* Continuation of The Exhibition, the Alliance’s drag show series that launched in March 2008, with the production of the second annual show in February 2009 and a spinoff of the show, The Escapade, coming in October 2008.HighlightsIn 2002, we were named Organization of the Year by Georgia State University! We’ve also been recognized by the Human Rights Campaign, Fox 5 News Atlanta, and Southern Voice. In 2005, the Alliance was honored with a Phoenix Award from the City of Atlanta and Mayor Shirley Franklin!
