About Me

Don has been playing piano for over 30 years. He started playing classical piano at the age of 7, taking lessons at Sisters of Loretto Convent at Webster College. Later he studied with Dr. John Milak at St Louis Institute of Music. He earned a music scholarship at Southeast Missouri State University.He has played in various popular groups in high school and college. Musical venues included local clubs, fraternity parties, high school dances, weddings, and private parties. In the late 70s, he played professionally with a Dance/Disco group traveling in the mid-west motel/hotel circuit. Then he took a 15 year sabbitical to raise his children.In recent years he has played in various local groups and has done volunteer work at Bethesda Dilworth. Some of the groups he has played in over the years include: Brown Beans and Ham, Terra Nova, Rocket 88, Featherstone Drive, Harrison Blues Family, and Suburban Soul.Don's musical repertoire includes: R&B, Motown, Jazz, Blues, Disco, Dance, Funk, Soul, Classic Rock, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s Rock. Keyboard sounds include (but not limited to): Piano, Rhodes, Wurly, B3, Clav, Strings, Horns, Synths. He is proficient at horn parts, soloing, and backing vocals. He has good ear and is a quick study.

Band Members: The recordings you hear include Don's keyboard and some backing vocals. This should give you a good idea of how he works with other musicians. Don is presently working with Three bands: Rocket 88, Vee 6, and Hot Stuff. He also plays solo gigs in senior centers and nursing homes during the day. He is available to do fill-in work as his schedule permits.
Influences: Early musical influences include instructors who taught me music fundementals: the late Sister Jocille Hunleth, the late Dr. John Milak, the late Frank Schindler.Other early childhood infuences from a classical prospective include (but not limited to) Bach, Beethoven, Handel, Bartok, Eric Satie, Schoenberg, Gershwin, Chopin.Early popular musical influences include (but not Limited to) Ray Charles, Buddy Holly, Ahmad Jamal, Ramsey Lewis, Art Tatum, Wilson Pickett, Temptations, Beach Boys, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Brian Auger, Doors, Eddie Floyd, Chicago, Frank Zappa,Later musical influences include: Van Morrison, Willie Nelson, Billy Joel, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Steely Dan, Jeff Beck, Diana Krall, Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Cannonball Adderly, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, BB King, Rogers and Hart, Bart Howard.
