...we were looking for something more than what's going on in the local music scene today...
hat do you get when you place four kids that grew up during the 80's???? You get a pop-infused band that has put their own spin on huge arena style drum beats, punk rock bass grooves, hair metal melodic guitar riffs and pop vocals, also known as If Looks Could Kill.
The band started with the demise of another. Fuscia, a Toronto based band and 6 year project for long-time friends Jason Godin (vocals) and Shawn Hawley (drums), had run it’s course and come to and end. They decided to stick together and start a new project with their thirst for music and the ever evolving love for new sound. They recruited long time friend Ivan Zand to play guitar and immediately started writing and tracking demo songs to find a sound and feel for the new project. After finding what felt to be the right path to take, the boys went hunting for someone that was just as hungry and had the same passion for music as they did. After trying out numerous bass players, one stood out from the rest. With his aggressive style of playing and awesome sense of humour, bass player Grim was the prefect fit for If Looks Could Kill. One last addition to the new project was seasoned guitar player Chico. After coming off a long run as a founding member and lead guitarist for award winning, road tested Canadian band Not By Choice, Chico quickly melded his style of play into the band’s songwriting and stage show.
The boys knew they had to get some new material recorded immediately to launch the project, so they searched out the help of long time friend and producer Murray Daigle of MDS Recording. Murray came in with a ton of ideas and opinions to help ILCK with pre-production. Once in the studio, ideas were constantly thrown around and a sound came out unlike any of the other local bands/groups playing today.
"We just wanted to do something different" cites Ivan. "We were looking for something more than what’s going on in the local music scene today".
The band has just recently released the tracks on the net as well as a video EPK, pictures and a video blog from their friends in Social Code who gave the boys some shout outs and support to help with the launch of If Looks Could Kill. The band is sure to captivate any audience with their energetic and fun live shows so be sure to check out one of the hottest bands to come out of Toronto, Canada this year. If Looks Could Kill!!!
