LWP REUNION 1/5/08
The Little White Pills Bio
The Little White Pills were started in the late summer of 2002 by J.B. Beverley (Bad Habits, Murder Junkies, Wayward Drifters, Ghostdance) after a long hiatus from the rock scene. Blending late 60's garage rock, 70's punk, and 80's hardcore, the original LWP line-up was a three-piece, hard-driving machine. Within a couple months of rehearsing, J.B. became re-united with his old friend and fellow guitar player Darren “Dirty†Waters. After hearing a rehearsal tape, Dirty was an official PILL, and things began to take shape.
The four-piece incarnation of the LWP played around their home of Washington DC, Baltimore, MD, and Richmond, VA regularly; kicking up a heap of dust, and laying waste to the rumors that REAL rock and roll is long dead. Things culminated with 2003's “Hell To Heavy Rebel Tour†of the East Coast with Thee Exit Wounds (UK). But soon after the tour, Chuck (original bass player) left the band, and Blee (original drummer) went right behind him. J.B. immediately tapped Carl Raether (Rotoscope) to play bass. Longtime friend Gary Isom (Spirit Caravan, Pentagram) signed on to play drums, and soon after, the LWP re-emerged louder, cleaner, and meaner than ever.
In 2004 The LWP contributed a song (“I Wanna Be Lovedâ€) to the Johnny Thunders Tribute Album on Rockandrollradio Records, and also released a 14 track live bootleg CD “Live at the Velvet Lounge†recorded in their home town of Washington DC. Soon after the CD's release, Carl quit the band to move out to CA and give things a try with Spectre. From the Winter of 2004 until March of 2006 the LWP went through two other bass players (Johnny Wretched and Russ Strahan), and did a couple mini tours up and down the coast. After a packed show in Baltimore in March of 2006, an argument drove a wedge between Darren and Russ. The result was the band vanishing all together. J.B. stayed busy with the Wayward Drifters and the Murder Junkies, Darren worked on some solo music, Gary played in a few projects (including Valkyrie), and Russ took part in some other projects like Hellfire Red. The LWP seemed to have gone up in smoke.
After a two year absence, the Little White Pills resurfaced virtually unannounced in Frederick, Maryland in January 5, 2008. With Carl back on bass for the night, the LWP played a 45 minute set totally cold (in honor of Darren's birthday). Rumor has it that they are sorting out the bass situation and plotting a vengeful return. We should all be so lucky.
