About Me

My artistic practice is in contemporary dance but I’m very interested in dance theatre, live art and performance work. I’m interested in making work that is abstract and conceptual and makes the spectator think. I’m interested in overcoming the challenge of asking intellectual, philosophical and theoretical questions about what dance, or performance in a wider sense, is and what it can be, and then exploring them in a practical manner- the choreography. In other words, I’m always trying to find the connection between theory and practice. As well as being interested in making work for traditional theatre/stage settings, I’m also interested in making work that may be site-specific, interactive and may take place for a longer period of time, for example as a performance installation, and that challenges the relationship between performer and spectator.I am currently undertaking the MA Dance Theatre: The Body in Performance at LABAN (Conservatoire for professional contemporary dance training)in London. I hold a First Honours Degree in Dance and Arts Management from De Montfort University where I finished my studies in 2007. In my final year I was one of five choreographers selected to produce work for De Montfort University Dance Company’s 2007 programme Exit Strategy. I collaborated with Adam Weikert (Music Technology graduate) and five fellow dancers to create the piece titled Hybrid, which was selected by the Arts Council England to represent England at the Biennale for Young Artists from Europe which took place in Italy in May 2008.Since graduating I have been able to gain professional experience in a variety of artistic contexts. In June 2007 I was Artist/Creative Collaborator on a 10-day interdisciplinary project held at De Montfort University researching and experimenting with the new technology Isadora (computer programme). I was selected to perform in gleichzeitig, a durational (partly improvised) performance installation by Berlin based artist Kathinka Walter, which was performed as part of Quake at Derby Dance Centre in November 2007. I have choreographed for Nottingham based dance company Retina Dance and I have worked with Austrian choreographer Willi Dorner on a site-specific performance project incorporating new technologies through Nottingham. I also worked with Israelian choreographer Hofesh Shechter on a large-scale outdoor performance in Birmingham city centre as part of International Dance Festival Birmingham 2008. My first solo performance called falling still was presented at the Emergency! platform for emerging artists in Leicester in March 2008. Most recently I have been a performer for ‘Mirage_intern’, an International interdisciplinary collaborative project with Serbian Artistic Collective Doplgenger combing Internet research, video, live film and performance which premiered in July 2008 in Belgrade.
