What he paints is an extraordinary interpretation of the banal images he draws from.
Tommy's style is a combinations of patterns and unusual perspectives.
It is as if a Chagall and Picasso were torn apart and merged together to become a beautiful mosaic.Mama JohnsonBud LeeWiley FinleyandHarry Korpela
Shell Mosaic Artist
Exhibited at the
American Visionary Museum in Baltimore's
Holy H2o show.
Some of his smaller works are being shown currently at
Mainstreet Gallery in Clayton, GA.
Keep on the look out for more Harry Korpela sightings.A short bio of how I came to know Harry:I discovered Harry Korpela in a Flea Market about 5 years ago and nothing has been the same since.
An obsessive shell mosaic artist, who came to create his work after finding a bucket of shells in his apartment.
Of course there is more to the story than this.
This story gets longer everyday and is still in the process of beginning new chapters.
I however, have been chosen to be an "Agent" for Harry, as he likes to call me.
I would say representative.
He is a self proclaimed "Charles Bukowski" of the outsider art world.
An obsession for numbers, gambling and once upon a time, a now sober Harry,
was homeless and an alcoholic.
His work is painstakingly detailed.
He counts the number of shells he applies to each mosaic.
Countless hours, Harry likes to work into the wee hours of the night creating his pieces.
Some larger mosaics have taken as long as 9 months to create and have over
20.000 shells.
Many of these shell, called "pearl shells" are about as large as the head of a nail.
It is some of the most obsessive work I have seen.I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)
