Dan Costello

About Me

Blending classical, bluegrass, progressive rock, jazz, and folk may be difficult, even hazardous, but singer-songwriter and guitarist Dan Costello is up to the challenge. His performance experience ranges from hard rock bands to jazz ensembles to medieval instrumental troupes. He earned a Bachelors of Music degree in classical guitar in 2001 and works both in and out of the scholastic realm as a performer, accompanist, editor, composer, arranger, lyricist, teacher, and manager. Costello has shared the stage with Steve Miller, Third Eye Blind, Darius Rucker, Robert Earl Keen, Chris Botti and other excellent national and local talent.
Recently Dan performed as a guitarist for the 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games, and was featured as a soloist on local access TV Channel 11's Boise City Limits and on the radio both as a performer and as host for KBSU's Music from Stanley . He also serves on the faculty at Boise State University's Department of Music. A myriad of other musical endeavors make for an eye-popping 250-shows-per-year performance schedule. Costello is an outspoken advocate of local grassroots music...

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: myspace.com/godango
Band Members: Since I'm using this page primarily as my solo page, I'm the band. Dan. Me. I'm it.
My main instruments are my voice and guitar, but I also play harmonica, banjo, mandolin, bass, and hand percussion.

I cobble a band together now and then, calling it the Truck Stop Orchestra , and it is my great fortune that many other fantastic musicians have shared the stage with me in this get-up.
I also play some shows with the following:
Spindlebomb
Kelly Lynae Robinson
Mike Quinn

I was in a band called Stella (RIP) for a long time, which I miss for many reasons and think I'm supposed to NOT miss for others (even though that still doesn't quite make sense).
Anyway, the band consisted of two other very dear friends:
Rob Hill (bass, including fretless and fretted electric bass guitar and electric upright bass, vocals when he's had enough beers, and occasional mandolin)
and Scott Lindbloom (drums, percussion, vocals, 6- and 12-string acoustic guitar, PBRs)
And a few past members, including:
JB Allen (where's that boy's Myspace page these days?)
Gadrie "Gator" Edmunds
Vincent Miresse
Stella is dead; long live Stella!
Influences: All my teachers, and all my students.
All those I listen to, and all those that listen to me.
Those who I call friends, and those who call me the same.
and this bizarre, wonderful ever-changing world in which we live.
Sounds Like: ...(long awkward pause) Uh... you tell me. I've tried and tried and can't really find good comparisons anywhere.
...I love to sing. That's why I'm doing this, really.
...I can't make up my mind what style I wanna play tonight. My guitar work is a schizo-sonic mix of classical, bluegrass banjo, funk, grunge, and jazz.
...I refuse to settle for the easy score with a crowd. I love the spontaneous combustion of improvising and surprising people, trying to get people to like something they've never heard before.

Good news from the doc-- the MRI results are in, and are completely clear. That means no tumors, and no weird blood vessel issues, either of which could cause serious damage to the brain. Now the other...
