Huw Hamilton is a self tought singer songwriter guitar player. Brought up in Ireland Huw started to write poetry at a young age. At the age of 15 he left home to see what the world had to offer. Not knowing which road he would take, he worked in many part time and full time jobs. At the age of 17 he was already listening to many different bands and artists one of which were Mike Scott and the much loved Waterboys. After he saw The Whole of the moon one afternoon on MTV, he ran to a friends house and told the friend (Peter Mangen) that he wanted to learn guitar. Peter spent the rest of the afternoon showing Huw some chords. Huw also had another friend in the same town that had a guitar under his bed that he never used (Maxi. R.I.P). That was Huws next stop. Luckly Maxi decided to part with the guitar and Huw brought it home.
Days later and with bloody fingers Huw had finished his first song. The Chariot song. That was it, he had the bug. After a short time Huw had learned enough songs and decided it was time to take the stage. He found small gigs in local bars and shocked the locals with songs like Sarah from Dylan and Madame George from Van Morrison. Huw loved the stage the attention and the spotlight and decided it was time for a band. The band to be were Congress 27 with 4 other want to be rock stars from Killarney Co. Kerry.
Luckley enough some of the best music at the time was coming out of Ireland. Bands like The Fireflys form Cavan. The Dixons from Dublin, The fat lady sings, Cactus World News, Hinterland, Light A Big Fire and of course Huws fav. The Waterboys. There were so many and Huw and Congress 27 were right there in the middle chalking up support gigs with all these great bands when the played localy. Being young rock stars the had their differences and split up. Huw was not finnished. Still in his raggle taggle stage he joined up with a traditional group called The Oconnor Brothers. This was also short lived. Huw then but his own music on the shelf for a few years and worked for a travel and fineance company. In these years Huw built up a large record collection consisting om many new and up coming bands that he would have heard on The Dave Fanning show RTE2.
Huw decided he had had enough of the suit and tie office business and decided to head for main land Europe. First stop Bremen Germany. On his second night in Germany Huw found himself in an Irish bar called Heggartys. One night later Huw had his first gig in Germany and 14 years later Huw is still playing around the Irish pubs. Not getting any younger Huw started to think how long more could he keep touring so on April 1st. Huw bought his own Irish bar in Lüneburg. The Old Dubliner. Pop in and if you are lucky enough on a Friday or Saturday night you might just hear Huw still singing Dylan or Morrison or even just singing Huw.
