~ President George W. Bush

" True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost.”

Rather know the things I know
See the world with my own eyes
No regrets, no looking back, no goodbyes
No goodbyes...

"You must study to be frank with the world: frankness is the child of honesty and courage. Say just what you mean to do on every occasion, and take it for granted that you mean to do right."

I'd like to meet:

I'm not interested in dramatic or selfish people, nor do I care about people simply because they have fame or money. I've got no use for cowards, users, cheaters or liars either. I am interested in people who are brave and honest, who laugh a lot and try to make the world a better place. I'm not impressed by things people do, it's who they are and what their motives are that can win me over. Your resume doesn't concern me. I think silly games are stupid, because life is too short to go through it having to guess where you stand. I'm cocky sometimes, and I talk a lot of smack, because I think people with no sense of humor are missing out on life. Finally, I believe people with no integrity aren't worth the air they breathe, if you ask me.

"Being this popular is not just my right, but my responsibility."
~ Cordelia, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"

Music:

Pearl Jam, Staind, Shinedown, Bush, STP, Nirvana, Black Crowes, Drive-By Truckers, Steve Earle, Jackopierce, the Nixons... I could keep up this list forever.

Movies:

MOVIES:
Anything with virtuous heroes and evil villains. Good versus evil is my thing.

Books:

BOOKS:

* THE BIBLE, by GOD. * "This Side of Paradise," by F. Scott Fitzgerald. * "To Kill a Mockingbird," by Harper Lee. * "Existential Journalism," by John Merrill. * "Karate-Do Kyohan" by Gichin Funakoshi. * "MASH" and "Nine Great American Myths" by my dad, Pat Apel.

Heroes:

HEROES:
I guess I'm a little bit my own hero, because I'm a survivor. :) I've been through some yucky stuff, but God's given me the strength to come out of it, no matter how long it takes. You really have lost a lot if you can't love yourself for exactly who God made you to be.
I definitely idolize my parents. My dad is a prosecutor in Ohio, and he's done so many amazing other things in his life too. He's the most amazingly fair, smart, honest person in the world, and I learned the meaning of "integrity" by watching him. He's been my hero since I was a little bitty kid. My mom is a cancer survivor, as well as one of the strongest, smartest, most Godly, most amazing people anyone will ever know. On top of that, my sister is my best friend in the world, and when I'm feeling really lonely I'm just grateful she's out there somewhere, because she knows me better than anyone. It's a real blessing to have someone with such a great heart who cares about you. And my brother is amazing too. He's fearless, and I love that about him. I hope I grow up there to be just like him.
I have some friends that are so brave. Some that have been handed some really crappy lots in life, but who have chosen to bear up under it in spite of the things that hurt and don't make sense. It's an amazing feeling when some of your heroes are your good friends, especially when they're there for you as much as they let you be there for them. When people of courage and integrity trust in you, it's the best gift they can give you.
And of course, Jesus Christ is my ultimate hero. He's the one who actually saved the world.
Oh, and I love this thing. I watch it all the time. I can't get over all the cuteness.

My Blog

You still need to read the thinky one, but here are some classics for comic relief.

Okay, so I have had several people express displeasure that I write blogs sometimes that do not make them laugh. God forbid (a) that I actually express myself in MY OWN BLOG, and (b) that you have to ...

Its the end of the world... And here I was worried about Obama and Hurricane Ike.

Okay, so I get these little updates in my email. If the powers that be sense the words, "Lincoln County," "Brookhaven," or "Therese Apel" in an article that comes through, it emails it to my inbox, ju...
