Emphatica

About Me

"Bristol three-piece Emphatica make a promising racket, their insistent punch-bag riffing tempered by an all-too-rare ear for melody.....i am trying to think of a name to match Emphatica's potential"
Venue magazine (Johnny Samba)
"Proving that Bristol has more to offer than just Skins and Psytrance raves, these boys are guaranteed to wake you up from your easter dairy induced soporific coma. Their weapons of choice? Dirty post grunge rock. Think NINE BLACK ALPS lost in some dark dark woods."
No Fiction Club (London)
"Thursdays at Start The Bus are becoming a benchmark for fans of good free live music. I went along to see what this week had in store and also to check out local band Emphatica. I have heard a lot of good things about Emphatica recently and they were up first on the line-up to provide local support for the out of town acts.
Emphatica are a post-grunge three-piece fronted by Bristol promoter Sam Betts. They have original material that has the feel of classic tunes when played live. Emphatica played a strong live set that set the bar high for the out of town guests. My personal favourite from the night was called Too Late, a dark and haunting yarn that would not sound out of place on a Pixies record.
...it made me happy to see the local support out shining the out of town acts."
4th June, supporting An Experiment on a Bird in the Airpump
Suit Yourself magazine
"Emphatica inhabit the grungier end of indie rock over with Nine Black Alps and their ilk. Post punk influences creep in later when they take on a clean, separated style that brings to mind punk-funk demigods Gang of Four. In other news, they may own at a copy of Hash Pipe by Weezer."
Peter Griffiths, Surface Unsigned
"Postpunk riffs in true live DIY fashion. A hint of Nirvana and a heap of New Order."
Nice Weather For Airstrikes Records
Having started officially gigging in september 2008 we've been busy, and 2009 has started off the way we like it.
In the last few months we have played with An Experiment on a Bird in an Airpump, Post War Years and Televised Crimewave, were main support for Turbowolf and headlined the goodship in Kilburn (london). We were also lucky enough to open the Louisiana stage at this years Harbourside Festival.
We are working on much needed recordings, with a EP hopefully coming in October with a tour. If you want to book us just send us a message Sam at [email protected]
