The Prodigal Son

About Me

The Prodigal Son was formed in 1994 by Chopas Rosas, a bass player from the center of Los Angeles, CA and Claudio De La Fuente, a thrash metal guitar player recently emigrated from Chile. Their first lineup would include Pablo Cruz as vocalist and Rolando Garcia on drums. Prodigal Son recorded a five song demo including the tracks; “Riding the Edge”, ‘Hypnosis”, “Maligno”, “Inner Voice”, and “Gestacion”, which would now include Rosas’ brother Nacho on vocals. The demo would showcase their nod to 80s traditional and thrash metal influences such as Iron Maiden, Testament, and Van Halen. Frequent club gigs through 1997 culminated in an appearance at the Milwaukee Metal Fest that year.
1998 would see the departure of Garcia, who was replaced by Jorge Iacobellis. Iacobellis established his name in Argentina and would later assault Europe with thrash legends Hirax. Iacobellis played with Prodigal Son for three years. High points for the band during that time included concert support slots for Testament, Exodus, Rata Blanca, Transmetal and Angeles Del Infierno. Former Sarcastic drummer Braulio Luna followed Iacobellis in 2001.
2004 marked the return of Iacobellis following his tenure in Hirax. Prodigal Son recorded an 11 song album with Iacobellis and continued performing around Los Angeles. Following this, Prodigal Son received the Hollywood Magazine “Best Metal Band Award” in 2005. A performance supporting Nevermore at which former Hirax guitarist Dave Watson first saw the band live which led to a conversation between Iacobellis and his former band mate led Watson joining in 2007. The current lineup will see completion of the 2004 recording and further concert dates in Los Angeles and neighboring cities.
Finally German Montenegro joined the band in late November 2007, as the new guitarist after playing bass for more than 6 years for local bands “Gina’s Kitchen Blues Band” and “Urraka” with backgrounds on Latino Folkloric music, Flamenco, Latin Jazz and Electric Blues, in April 22 2008 participated on The Prodigal Son first CD release "The Writer" at the Key Club in Hollywood California with Iacobellis still in the band's lineup sharing the stage with “Testament”, a few months later, with the return of Braulio Luna back on drums, they participated in October 26 at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood California for the "Appease The Beast Festival". =A 20 band line up?= It kind of felt like more!!! After Braulio left the band in the beginning of the year and with the next project already in place to play at The Hollywood Palladium on March 28 2009. The band struggle for another drummer for sometime, finally former drummer and original founder of "Crematorium" Frank Escalon joined the band in the middle of February 2009 which in March 1st share the stage with, "Sangre" - "Dia de los Muertos" - "Arise" - and “Brujeria" as a head liner @ Fredo's Club bringing his 23 years experience to the stage. The Hollywood Palladium on March 28 2009 being the next target head lining "Suicidal Tendencies” - “ The prodigal Son” will also share the stage with “Sangre”, “Letum Ascensus” and “Biohazard”.
Stay Tuned! The Band is currently working on their next project.
