Blue Wheatgrass Massacre

About Me

A happy accident. These three words would best describe the conception of Blue Wheatgrass Massacre. One fall afternoon after a long search for a good fiddle player in the Big Apple, singer-songwriter Joe Thompson was directed by an old friend to the talents of Sarah Hund. Upon their meeting and subsequent rehearsals, Sarah recognized Joe as a bartender in another life (this because his bloody marys were that good.) She immediately recommended her friend and talented multi-instrumentalist, Andrew Ross, to help round out the rootsy country-rock of Joe’s live band, The Comfortable Catastrophe. Living right around the corner from one another resulted in a series of mid-afternoon livingroom old-timey-bluegrass-country jam sessions that may or may not have involved orange juice, vodka, and a banjo-loving Chihuahua. It was during one of these glorious afternoons that “The Big Book of Rock” was discovered minding its own business on the coffee table. This would change everything. The trio quickly realized that once you have played bluegrass cuts of Megadeth, Uriah Heep, Dio, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, and Steppenwolf, you can never go completely back to the classic repertoire of acoustic music. Since this serendipitous afternoon, Blue Wheatgrass Massacre has entertained crowds with their bluegrass/classic rock/honky tonk/heavy metal stylings at venues throughout New York City, including Rodeo Bar and Hank’s Saloon.
