Kaniek is a survivor; a strong, young, and intelligent woman that draws on her strength and life’s experiences to belt out the lyrics that are sure to warrant her a vast following of admirers. A native of Richmond, Virginia, Kaneik credits her family for the dynamic role they play in developing her as a woman as well as an artist. She feels blessed and uniquely special when her experiences speak loudly through her music. When asked what her genre of music actually consisted of, she replied, “I really can’t sum it up into one genre. Some days it’s all about R&B, some days Soul, and then there are days when I throw in a little Hip Hop.” Her major musical influences are found in the personas of such greats as Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, and Phyllis Hyman. It is a tough world out there when dealing in the music industry, but Kaneik feels that she has what it takes to separate her from the artists of today. She combines her talented voice with spunk and perseverance and is sure to stay away from music that is too gimmicky. She feels that it is all about talent first and would never be caught capitalizing on gimmicks and fast falling trends to get her message across. “I know that I am a breath of fresh air to the R&B genre. Right now, R&B seems to be at a stalemate and I want my expressive voice to speak for itself. My music is an extension of me, the realness in me.” This amazing artist realizes that in this game, sex sells, but she will not degrade herself just to fit an image. “I am just me. I know appearance has a great deal to do with selling my music, and yes I do have to appeal to my audience, but I refuse to sacrifice my talent or lower my standards to get people to listen to my music. I want people to hear my music and like it because they feel the things I’m saying.” Kaneik wants her music to transcend through all generations, but wants to connect mostly with the young females. “I want to cross boundaries and let them know I understand, cause I've been through it and really, for real I’m still going through..it , I just want to actually connect with people and enlighten them on how music can bring all generations together.” In the future, Kaneik sees herself successful in the music game and hitting the top of the charts with her music. “It takes sacrifice, and that is something I am willing to give wholeheartedly. When you are doing something that you love and it is this monumental, you have to stay focused and take every day as it comes.
