The Pickups

It Depends Who You Know

About Me

Here's what people have said about us: ------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------- ------------------------------I reckon The Pickups had just about their best ever show, playing a short set and spiking it with some frantic guitar-runs, noisy moments and even William abandoning the guitar to straddle the microphone stand... - thebigcity.co.nz, November 2006-------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------Local threesome The Pickups play at the Wunderbar tomorrow night. Formed in late 2004, The Pickups have supported The Bats, The Renderers, The Chills, Mestar and Ghostplane. Their sound has been described as psychedelic pop-rock. The band takes inspiration from the 1960's, in particular The Beatles, The Byrds and The Velvet Underground. They are also influenced by Flying Nun bands such as The Clean, Sneaky Feelings and The Great Unwashed and recently supported The Chills at the Hepatitis C benefit gig at the Media Club. Their four-track demo CD is available free through their myspace.com/thepickupsnz site...This week, the beat highly recommends The Pickups, with The Steffan Van Soest Hit Machine, at the Wunderbar tomorrow night. - Christchurch Press, October 2006-------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------A wonderful, friendly show in a packed room at the Media Club...Lastly The Pickups capped off the night with some high-energy indie-pop - they're a group thats really getting things together. - thebigcity.co.nz, January 2006 ------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------- -------------------Opening the evening's entertainment were The Pickups, three young lads, new to the scene, but with a surprisingly well thought-out, well executed set of original songs. Although a tad lengthy for the support act, they still managed to impress the capacity crowd. - Christchurch Press, June 2005-------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------A strong (though lengthy) opening set came from new poppy 3-piece rock combo The Pickups. A heavy Chills influence is fairly noticeable in their sound; jangly, country-tinged and guitar driven songs, with excellent, flowing rhythm. A good band to look out for. - thebigcity.co.nz, May 2005
