Rudy has been entertaining for 40 years, beginning with gospel music, and proceeding to perform in clubs and hotels all over the United States.
In 1968, Rudy signed with Atlantic Records and became one of the original "Drifters", recording their last released single. Atlantic also recorded Rudy under his own name, releasing a single called "Cheer Up (Daddy's Coming Home)" in 1969. He has appeared with country artist, Jack Green, and opened for the late Otis Redding, and the "Godfather of Soul" James Brown.
For the past 26 years, Rudy has been a solid fixture in the Huntsville night life, well-known in the area for his incredible voice, variety of music and authentic sound. That's why he draws the crowds everywhere he goes!! His performances are professional, nostalgic, full of energy and unsurpassed quality that audiences love!!
And now, not only will you have chances of seeing the Rudy Mockabee Band that you have come to know so well, but also can see him combining his talents with the FLASHBACKS !!!
Emily is Rudy Mockabee Band’s fantastic leading lady. Emily's outstanding vocal talent and enthusiastic stage presence presents an exciting and entertaining performance from start to finish.
She has known she was born to sing since she was a little girl. She began singing professionally when she was 13 years old. She started performing in dinner clubs, but once she performed with a high energy show band she found her place in the entertainment business.
Emily always gives 100% for the audience and her confidence radiates during the shows. Audiences marvel at Emily’s wide range and strong voice. Her love of singing and entertaining emanates in every performance!!
The FLASHBACKS with Rudy Mockabee is a fantastic group that are high-energy and lots of fun! They have quality musicians, excellent vocals, and professional showmanship, with great dance moves and choreography. And they perform a wide spectrum of music – from early Motown to today's rock-n-roll. Likened to such performers as the "Temptations", the fun they have on stage is contagious – and spreads to the entire audience!! This is why they are one of the most sought after groups in the Southeast!!
Gordon is The FLASHBACKS bass singer, choreographer, and does percussion in the group. He is the only remaining original member of The Flashbacks.
Gordon began his singing career by performing Louis Armstrong's version of "Hello Dolly" at family get togethers at the age of 5. His love of singing and performing came from his mother, Pat, and his maternal grandmother "Granny Hunter". Nellie Hunter performed on radio in the Shoals area in the late 40's and early 50's.
The 50’s and 60’s sounds were not complete without the bass singer. Gordon’s vocal can be heard on such classics as “My Girl†by the Temptations, “Proud Mary†by Ike & Tina Turner, or as lead on such tunes as “Rainy Night in Georgia†by Brooke Benton.
Gordon has a fantastic vocal range, and adds to our performance background vocals from baritone to falsetto. He also plays a variety of percussion instruments. He loves singing and great showmanship, and this shines through in every performance! Fun, fabulous, and contagious is on The FLASHBACKS' roster – and you’ll catch it, too!!

Russ is The FLASHBACKS show-stopping drummer and percussionist!! His twirling drumsticks and funny stage antics make him a show within a show!!!
Russ began to be interested in drums when he was in middle school and high school. He was involved with the concert, jazz, and marching bands. Later, while working for a band equipment distributor, he taught drum lessons to local youth.
Russ became well known as part of the “Freeway Bandâ€, and currently is our fantastic drummer! He has fronted or played with many personalities, such as: Hank Williams, Jr., Percy Sledge, The Platters, Gary Morris, and George Jones.
Tom is a terrific vocalist, who also plays guitar, drums and percussion in The FLASHBACKS.
His older brother was the main reason Tom grew to love music so much. He gave him a transistor radio when he was 4 years old, and always let him listen to his 45s. He learned to play trumpet, and played in the marching band at school. Then he taught himself to play drums, and joined “Ashwood Runâ€, a group from his high school. Later, he joined another band, but this time, he was asked to be lead singer. Never having been out from behind the drum kit was, um, scary . . . no – petrifying!! But he got used to it, and the group toured all over the southeast for 4 years!!
Becoming a famous rock-n-roll star wasn’t happening, however, and Tom came off the road and took a job. But after a time, he found that he missed performing, so he started again on a part-time basis. In the 80’s and early 90’s, he played with a group called “Still Lifeâ€, which had a very active career. But in 1993, the group called it quits to focus on their marriages and families. So, for about 10 years, Tom only sang for his wife and kids. But, in 2002, Tom was approached to perform with a company group. This didn’t last, but the bug to perform had bitten again!
Then in 2005, The FLASHBACKS called! Now, Tom’s dynamic vocals and showmanship is an essential ingredient in this group. His vocal ability helps to take you on a musical journey through time!

Mike (frequently sought after party guest -- all around charismatic, effervescent & charming guy!) is our guitarist and does backing vocals for The FLASHBACKS. His "tasty" guitar licks help complete what has come to be known as "the THANG" in the group.
He learned to play guitar when he was 4 years old, teaching himself. His style is unorthodox, yet very appealing -- he's truly a natural!! He started playing professionally at the age of 16, and later branched out into writing music & songs, producing and arranging -- doing studio work, tv & radio background music for commercials, 17 album projects that he either performed on or helped produce (or both!), working in several studios around the country.
In 1986, one of his original songs, "Take You Home to Mama", was released and charted in at 15, and remained on the charts for several weeks. In 1988, he also won first and second round competitions on TNN's "You Can Be A Star". He's written a multitude of songs, and collaberated with many artists and songwriters over the years. He's performed with/opened for various well-known artists and songwriters, such as The Coasters, The Grass Roots, Hank III, Aaron Tippin, and Travis Meadows -- just to name a few.
Mike has a genuine love of life and people that shines through everything he does. His personality, antics, and inspiration make him a joy to be around!!
Taylor is The FLASHBACKS sax and keyboard player. He's a dynamic player that just recently committed to becoming part of our group, and who, quite literally, walked on stage and started playing with us! Talk about WOW!!
Taylor isn’t your ‘typical musician’ – he plays what he likes to play! Born just south of "Music City" in Tennessee, you'd think he'd be like most every other musician from the area. But he's not. He doesn't play country music, not that he's got anything against it -- he was born to play jazz and blues. At an early age (about 4), his father heard Taylor pick out the notes to "I heard It Through The Grapevine" on a piano, and suspected Taylor might have a special musical gift. A gift that needed to be cultivated. In the eighth grade Taylor took up the sax and joined the middle school band. When he was 16, he and his father took a trip to Memphis where Taylor played with several top groups on Beale Street.
He has played with some of the best musicians in the area, including the Scott Holt Blues Band in gigs at the famous Third and Lindsley Club in Nashville. He has jammed with top Muscle Shoals musicians including the Rolling Stones, Lyle Lovett and Saxophonist Harvey Thompson, and various members of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.
Not only does Taylor play soprano, alto, and tenor sax, but he is also versatile and multi-talented, and has added keyboards, harmonica, guitar, bass guitar, EWI, piano, B3 organ, trumpet and drums to his arsenal of instruments.
Philip is the The FLASHBACKS’ bass player and the newest addition to the line-up, bringing over 45 years of musical talent to the group – and there are a lot of stored up songs and ideas just waiting to be released!
Growing up on the guitar and playing for local bands, he switched to bass a few years ago (when his youngest daughter started out-playing him) and found there was a shortage of working bass players. He quickly went from learning to groove to covering material for several bands. Styles ranged from 70’s and 80’s rock tunes, to country, jazz/swing, acoustic back-up, and some easy listening thrown in on the side.
Since this switch, he has opened/played for several “big name†artists -- Martin Delray, Angela Hacker, Lisa Busler, The Gatlin Brothers, Mark Wills, and Sugarland to name a few.
“I’m just thrilled to be playing with The FLASHBACKS!! -- seems like I’ve got the best parts of all my other projects in one group, playing the music I grew up with!â€
