SHE’LL BE RIGHT RECORDS Of New Zealand announces the release of God’s Little Angle the second full-length CD by Canadian poet and performer Jim Christy. This is not like other spoken word productions. God’s Little Angle is a unique mix of lyrics and music, mixed beats, song, vocal gymnastics, rap and rock, blues and syncopated eccentricities.
Here are some critical comments on Christy’s previous CD A Night in Grombalia (Transsiberian), which received wide airplay and earned a top ten rating on several campus and alternate radio stations:
Ottawa Xpress: “…. a poet with a voice like Gary St. Laurent’s (or Ross Porter, hung over) .… Christy knows when to say when and never leaves you wishing you were somewhere else.â€
!earshot: “…. Mixes beat poetry with wailing alto saxes and rootsy guitar licks. Christy’s voice is as gritty as Tom Waits’…. perfect for a night of drinking rotgut and watching David Lynch movies .… take a trip but take a gun.â€
emoragei: “Jim Christy …. transcende le genre…. Sa voix, quant a elle, sonne unpeu comme celle de Robbie Robertson .… Christy resonne l’experience et l’assurance de l’aventurier aguerri.â€
Islands Gazette: “a whiskey whisper wise-guy weary voice … a gem of a listening pleasure.â€
SubTerrain: “A natural performer his spoken word performances fall somewhere between Catullus and a country and western song.â€
And we at She’ll Be Right think God’s Little Angle is even better.
The CD will be officially released in August, and Jim Christy will tour Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.
