About Me

i am a self-employed artist (painter)/ entrepreneur based in san francisco. basically was born with the paintbrush in my hand and plan to continue to develop my work throughout the rest of my life. you can check my work at my site sivadart studio , I like art , traveling, meeting new people and hearing their stories/ their journey through life, cooking vegan food (and if i may say so i am a great cook..my friends say so too), bikram yoga (yes I know it is extremely intense and hot, but it is worth it in so many ways), the quote in my headline is one of my favorites by Paul Robeson. another fav is "Behind the complicated details of the world stand the simplicities" Graham Greene 1904-1991. you can learn more about me and view more of my work by visiting my official website link above. ..
On the professional side a few highlights taken from my Bio...... Keina's work is shown in galleries, museums and alternative spaces throughout the U.S, as well as internationally and owned by a diverse group of people from around the world, including collectors in France, Germany, Japan, Africa, Brazil, Canada, as well as numerous collectors throughout the U.S. She has been fortunate to be the recipient of Individual Artist Grants most recently from the SF Arts Commission, The Puffin Foundation and the George Sugarman Foundation. She has also been a nominee and recipient of several awards.
Recent exhibits include solo shows at Stanford University, The San Francisco African American Museum, Portfolio Gallery (St. Louis), Fighting for Liberation at UC Berkeley, Cesar Chavez Gallery San Francisco, Multicultural Center Gallery at UC Santa Barbara, and University of California Los Angeles . Recent group exhibits include The New Power Generation at Hampton University Museum(Hampton, VA), Of Color at Harvard University (Cambridge), Ancient Traditions: Contemporary Forms, at the Embassy of Ghana (Washington DC), New Dimnsions in African American Art at the Norfolk State University Archives Museum (Norfolk, VA), Heritage, Testimony and Spirit at Le Florence Gallery (Los Angeles), Irony, Paradox: Victory at The Pen and Brush Gallery (NY) , Women of Color at Liz Long Gallery and Urban Art Retreat (Chicago), Faces at Tessera Gallery(Winston Salem, NC) Locus Media Gallery (NY), Interpretations of Sound at Rush Arts Gallery (NY), Represent Too: Celebrating Black Women Visual Artists of the 21st Century at the Tilford Art group Gallery (Los Angeles) where my work was shown with 8 other artists including Master artist Dr. Samella Lewis, Noir at the John Hynes Center(Boston), Culver Gallery (St. Louis), Afro Solo at the 509 Cultural Center (San Francisco), the Limner Gallery (NY) and the Artemisia Gallery (Chicago). Keina's work was included in the 5th International Open, curated by internationally recognized artist Faith Ringgold. This exhibit took place at the Woman Made Gallery (Chicago), March 2002. In 2001 she was also represented in Bojangles at the Musee' Dapper (Paris), an event & exhibition sponsored by Cafe de la Soul & MGM TV Group Paris, France.
Keina is featured in Imagining Ourselves, a global interactive exhibition and anthology that will debut in March 2006, organized by the International Museum of Women . A preview of the exhibit debuted at the United Nations in March 2005. She have been featured in several other publications including, African American Review, The Oakland Tribune, Black Arts Quarterly, the San Francisco Chronicle, Dysonna Magazine, Voices published by Duke University, Yush Magazine UK , B.E.T Sponsored Digital Drum Magazine, African Voices, Luv 4 Art Magazine, 7x7 SF, Arise Magazine, City Flight, Get Underground, Today's Canadian Black Woman Magazine and Regeneration:Telling Stories From our Twenties, which was released in January 2003 by Penguin- Putnam Books NYC.
Keina received her BFA in painting from the University of Florida and was later accepted into the MFA program and given a full merit award at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts/ Tufts University Boston. Part of her education includes participating in a student travel program in Europe, spending most of her travel time in London, UK. Keina has been painting since age 7 and exhibiting professionally since age 18.
