Red Sky

RedSky was formed originally as a studio-based project in 1986 by Ian Hill and Dave Owen, from the ashes of their previous band RHINO (1981-85) Ian and Dave teamed up with keyboard player Simon Power and Bass player Muzz Murray in 1987 (with Andy Marsden taking over Bass duties in 1990) to form a live band. Based at The Boardwalk, Manchester, RedSky played an all-original set of catchy, commercial Rock. The band played many gigs nationwide and recorded numerous tracks - one of which was aired on Radio 1's Friday Rock Show by the late, great Tommy Vance. Sadly, RedSky ceased to be as a working band in June 1993.However, Ian and Dave teamed up again in August 2000 to record 3 tracks for a proposed Status Quo Tribute Album, which was to feature Quo Tribute acts from around the world. Although RedSky were NEVER a covers band, the opportunity to record tracks for a tribute album to their musical heroes was too good to miss! The tracks recorded were 'Rockers Rollin', 'I Saw the Light' and a 20 minute epic version of the 1973 Quo classic 'Forty-Five Hundred Times'.The guys were paid the ultimate compliment when Ian gave a CD of the finished tracks to Quo's Bass Player John 'Rhino' Edwards. His verdict was: "Sounds like the real deal! Rick (Parfitt) heard it and thought it WAS Quo!" A fine testimonial indeed! The original source tapes have deteriorated over the years, but every effort has been made to restore the recordings (albeit here in MP3 format) to their original quality (with the odd remix here and there!) Maybe featuring them on MySpace might get some of these songs heard for the first time in many years - and by a hell of a lot more people who heard them first time around!
