Om Festival is an Alternative Music and Arts Festival which will be held on the 16th August in the Submarine Bar in Crumlin. Its aim is to fuse different styles of contemporary music, art and performance together for one day under one roof.A great friend and wonderful Traditional Irish Musician came to me one day and asked me why is it that he finds it so difficult to get a young crowd to attend his gigs. Its almost as if the young expect the traditional scene to be only for the old man with the long grey beard sitting in the corner of the pub with his yellowing pint of Guinness playing the accordion. Of course many of us who have been lucky enough to be exposed to the wonders of Irish music know that this certainly is not the case. It is my intention with the Om Festival not just to bring together Irish traditional audiences and players but for them to collaborate with folk musicians, Indian Classical musicians, rock bands, writers, dancers and actors. The audience will not only be able to feast their ears on a wide range of performances, there will also be a contemporary art exhibition within the venue. This will feature a variety of different sculptures, installations, paintings and photographs from different Irish professional artists, photographers and film makers.
