"Fred Lyra is a musician, guitar player and educator from Recife, Northeast Brazil. He has had guitar lessons with great teacherssuch as Leonardo Melo, Sidor Hulak, Fred Andrade and Brazilian legend Heraldo do Monte. He studied harmony and arrangement with Thales Silveira and theory with Paulo Barros and Edvaldo Filho. He is a disciple of guru Ram Helder Araújo in the study of Indian Music, and has performed with him in Recife and Rio de Janeiro,Fred has played in important venues around Recife, all Pernambuco, in Leeds (UK) and Lyon(France) where he lived. He has performed with great musicians such as Itiberê Zwarg, Ramiro Musotto, Thales Silveira,Giuliano Modarelli, Helder Araújo, Chris Parker, Ninon Foiret, Wallace Seixas, Beto Daltro, Claudio Kron, PlÃnio Dourado, Brandon Sax, Vitor Araújo and many others. He played with forro group Balaio de Cheiro and recorded they first CD.He has recorded a modern improvisation CD with American pianist Chris Parker and Brazilian Connection.He participated as an instructor in "Drumming for Business" Brazilian percussion workshops in Doncaster, Leeds and Coventry.He played with world music group Kali in the FIG 2006, with Claudio Kron in the Godiva Festival(Conventry) in 2008, with Choir University(UFPE) in Virtuosà festival 2007, with MIMO Dedilhadas Orchestra and MIMO Symphonic Orchestra with the great Egberto Gismonti as soloist, both setember 2008.He is a student of music in the UFPE in Recife, Brasil."*(thanks to Sarah Mountain)
