About Me
The Hops origins go back to the summer of 2007 when Patrick Tinning, out of luck, packed up his UHAUL and moved 1000 miles from Austin, TX to Chicago. When he got there he joined a local band, The Broken Belts, and also started assembling his own band with musicians from the area. The first person on was Matthew Dzik, who he met through family friends. Matt and Patrick began laying the groundwork for The Hops in early 2008, putting down rhythm tracks for the songs and working on what will become their debut ep. They went through some journeymen musicians, friends who helped out with the project, before Brendan Tinning decided to play lead guitar. Then, through a serendipitous turn of events, Donovan Johnson, a local music major from DuPage county, who was living on good nature, came into contact with the band, and found himself playing rhythm guitar. Patrick moved over to bass guitar from rhythm guitar and mandolin, and the band was set. Through their love of music, the band wants to inspire you to get up. We are The Hops...Musicians:
Patrick Tinning has spent the last 4 years of his life in and out of bands before forming The Hops. He started playing music when he was 15 and has picked up a variety of instruments. He wants to educate the youth of the nation in his free time. He enjoys driving around in his Blue Demon and having out of body experiences.Matthew T Dzik is on sticks for The Hops. Matt wants to feel the fame and make people happy with his music. He is a graphic designer on the side. When he's not playing his drums he enjoys designing stuff for other people, bowling, and just having a good time.
Brendan Tinning shreds his ax for The Hops and backs up on vocals. He's searching for a safe haven from music. He's inspired by Yes, The Sea and Cake, Steely Dan, and The Beatles. Student by day, conquistador by night, he enjoys nude skydiving, surfing, nude croquet, writing, nude reading, and watching classic films (with extra clothes on).
Donovan Johnson is The Hops' x-man. He can play nearly every instrument known to man and is working on developing a new instrument so he can start playing that, too. He is looking forward to a career in the music industry. A proud veteran, he served in the Marine Corps in Kuwait and Iraq, and is a life-member of the VFW in Wheaton, IL, where he volunteers. Currently, he attends College of DuPage, where he is aspiring for an AFA, focusing on Music Performance.
