Sounds Like: Show: Milwaukee Metalfest - Saturday, July 31st, 2004; 6:00pm
Review by Lori Dake ---------------The style can possibly be described as completely cerebral, totally imaginative as well as some of the most brutal shit anyone will ever see! Idiom relied purely on their talent; no costumes, no antics - just pure, unadulterated, hardcore shit! The clarity of the three percussionists, including an infectious drummer, was rivaled by their guitarist's speed. The vocalist's style was similar to Corporate Death of Macabre, including the use of a remote mic. I doubt a standard mic would even be possible to use while beating on a 6'x3' xylophone board! Now add to that the uncanny accents, and you've got yourself an act you simply cannot afford to miss!Without doubt, Idiom was the most original band of Metalfest! They drew a sardine-packed crowd with both curious spectators and die-hard fans alike; people were drawn in by the equipment alone during their set-up! Who would have ever suspected three xylophone boards and a complete set of chimes would ever dare make its presence on a metal stage? Serious extra credit goes to these guys for having the balls to even attempt such an oddity! Definitely check them out!
All I can say about this one is that the singer has a huge xylophone set that he plays with onstage, confusing many a metalhead. Idiom are fiercely unique, something that is not easily accepted by a crowd bent on seeing more traditional faire. Heavy as hell when they want to be and quite accomplished in the musicianship department, it was apparent that the band cared not for the narrow mindedness certain sectors of the crowd were displaying. Others were completely won over by this unit of sheer metallic brilliance.
