About Me

Cork City F.C. (Irish: Cumann Peile Chathair Chorcaigh) is an Irish footbal club playing in the Football League of Ireland. Founded and elected to the league in 1984 to continue the long tradition of Association Football in Cork, its traditional colours are green and white with red trim. It was one of the first clubs in Ireland to field a team of professional footballers and certainly the first in Cork. With the progression of professionalism at the club, continued development of the Turner's Cross stadium and the transition to summer football, the club has seen increases in fan-base and following in recent years, including support from around the globe, with fans located in England, Australia, America,Sweden and Germany to name a few. The club is nicknamed the "Rebel Army." Notable current players include Irish international Joe Gamble, Georgie O'Callaghan,Dan Murray,Dave Mooney, Liam Kearney, Denis Behan, Mick Devine, Darren Murphy, and Billy Woods. The club won the 2007 FAI Ford Cup, defeating Longford Town 1-0 in the final thanks to a Denis Behan goal. Manager Damien Richardson was replaced in the offseason, and Alan Mathews was brought in as his replacement. The club's main fan group is known as "Commandos 84," and are regarded as some of the best in Ireland. Fanzines include "I Was Out There Once" and "Going Commando!" The main messageboard is www.ccfcforum.com. Expecatations are high every year, and this season is no different. So far the league form has left some to be desired, but we're confident the lads will bounce back, as well as produce strong showing in the League Cup, FAI Cup, Munster Senior Cup, and UEFA Cup Qualifying Rounds. For those who haven't heard of the club, it is where Kevin Doyle and Shane Long (both of Irish international and Reading FC fame) got their starts in football, as well as Sunderland striker Roy O'Donovan. Be sure to check out Cork photographer Optimus, who we thank for many of the photos posted here, his link and a few others are found in one of the blogs.
