About Me

Jeremiah Hair served in the First Cavalry of Kentucky from 1861 to 1865. He fought at the Battle of Gettysburg, and his obituary said he was a friend to Gen. Ulysses Grant.

He was invited to attend the 75th anniversary observance of Gettysburg, but was not able to attend. His son, Thomas, went in his place, and a commemorative medal for the occasion was found years later among Thomas' things.

The scrapbooks devoted to Jeremiah's life and military service include microfilm copies of pay chits from the Union Army and letterhead for the Supreme Tribe of Ben Hur, a fraternal organization to which he belonged.

He died at age 99 in 1940.
