About Me

Ryan began playing drums very early at the age of five, and eventually found himself drumming in school and church by the age of ten. During his last year as high school student, Ryan was already a full time commercial music major at South Plains College in Levelland, TX. By the time he graduated high school, Ryan had competed numerous times on the state level, performed with the premier ensembles at SPC, and had become a first call musician for many local bands.

Ryan is currently performing across the south plains with bands including Katalyst, The Funk Puppets, The Harlen Hodges Jazz Quartet, Blessia and the Indigo Serpent, Jazz & Tonic, and continues to be a first call drummer for many others. Works in progress include Katalyst's first official EP and his first album of original compositions scheduled to release winter of 2009.

Keeping an open mind keeps Ryan constantly learning and challenging himself to take that next step in his musical journey…hope you can join him for the ride!

My Interests

Music:

Influences: "Power Rangers, Superman, and The Backstreet Boys. Okay I'm joking, but my influences go on and on, and it would be impossible to remember everyone who has had some kind of influence on me. We'll start with drummers like Brian Blade, Stanton Moore, Joseph "Zigaboo" Modeliste, Keith Carlock, Jeff Hamilton, Jojo Mayer, Peter Erskine, ?uestlove, Steve Jordan, John Blackwell, Jimmy Cob, Elvin Jones, Philly Joe Jones, and Papa Jo Jones. Bands like Tower of Power, Earth Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Al Green, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dave Holland, Brian Blade and the Fellowship Band... and the list goes on forever. My biggest influences, however, arent the ones that get the big bucks or the record deals. I'd have to say the biggest influence of all is my family. My father is the only reason I ever picked up a guitar or played the drums, and he is the only one that would try to bribe me to sing a song! My mother is always showing her loving support for me and my career, even after all those late nights gigging until 3 am. The others are the instructors I have worked with... Matt Quick, Lesa Wood, Brent Wheeler, Emily Wheeler, Jay Lemon, Scott Faris, Russel Taylor, Al Gardner, Nora Taylor, Jerry Hernandez, John Rogers, and anyone I've left out. Also, thank you so much to the individuals and bands I have had the privelege to perform with. You are all responsible for the musician I am today."
