TenStepOut is band formed by musicians coming from quite a few ranges of professional experiences, from jazz to rock, funk and latin music, blending all these different flavours in a repertoire of originals and rearrangements of jazz standards, clearly inspired by the Steve Coleman’s M-Base movement rhythmic-melodic concept. The sound of this project comes out to be a perfect mix of jazz-funk interpretations, post-free and modal jazz tunes, polyrythmic odd tempos behind surprising themes, from Tullio Ricci’s post-bop language to the harmonic and melodic research of Giampiero Spina’s guitar, supported by the pulsating and energic rhythm section with Giacomo Lampugnani on bass, Luigi Scuri on Drums and the percussionist Filippo Ummarino. "TenStepOut" is their first work, released in July 2008, currently the band is already working at the new release, which is bringing the band toward new musical frontiers, following the stream of the new jazz concept of the late New York movements and musicians, like Greg Osby, Gary Thomas or Dave Douglas.
TenStepOut è un gruppo formato da musicisti provenienti da varie esperienze professionali che spaziano tra jazz/ fusion/rock/funky/latin music, amalgamando questi diversi stili per un repertorio di brani originali e rivisitazioni di standard jazz, ispirandosi alla concezione ritmico-melodica dell' M-base di Steve Coleman.
Un progetto aperto a varie influenze musicali che fonde energiche interpretazioni funk-jazz, aperture post-free e jazz modale, poliritmie in tempi dispari su temi accattivanti e sorprendenti,legati dal fraseggio post-bop del sassofonista Tullio Ricci (Ralph Peterson-Jeb Patton-"Paul Jeffrey Sextet"), alla ricerca armonico melodica del chitarrista Giampiero Spina (Ferdinando Faraò-Beppe Caruso,Antonio Zambrini) affiancati da una grande pulsante ed energica sezione ritmica il bassista Giacomo Lampugnani (Tullio De Piscopo-Paolo Fresu-“Everest/Marco Bianchi") il batterista Luigi Scuri (Guido Mazzon-"Time Percussion/Tony Arco"-Daniele Digregorio)e il percussionista Filippo Ummarino ("Timoria"-Tito Gomez-Erick Marienthal-"Biba band /Elio e le storie tese")
