The story of Days Of Lament.Back in 1984 or 85, Kevin and I were in High School together in Modesto California. We were nothing but trouble. We lived for partying and metal! This was a time when underground metal bands were Slayer, Venom, Celtic Frost, Mercyful Fate and Metallica. We lived, breathed and drank metal, as well as lots and lots of beer. When most others were still listening to Def Leppard and Motley Crue, we were on the forefront of true metal and we flaunted it! Were we ahead of our time? Hell yes! But as in all things time marches on and Kevin and I lost touch for 20 years.
Comes 2007, and I (Tim) get a myspace page. My exwife sends me a link to none other than Kevin Curtin, so I send him a message. Well he just so happens to live in Los Angeles, which is one hour away from me. So we hook up. He's taller than I remember and I'm fatter than he remembers, but it is us. Kevin Curtin in High School was a follower of Randy Rhoads and I assumed the next time I saw this man, he would be the next Randy Rhoads. But it turned out, although still heavily into guitar and music in general, he had no interest in being a "Rock Star". He has been in bands that showed a lot of potential for commercial success, but he decided that life was not for him. So he decided to make music with himself, by himself and for himself. He began playing and singing his heart out, and created a few rock cd's aptly named "Kevin Curtin", and developed a fan base. I, on the other hand, have not created music or sang a note since my garage band days in Modesto as a 19 and 20 year old. My intentions for meeting Kevin again after 20 years was friendship, nothing more, and just catching up and talking about the old days. As our friendship quickly rekindled, I began turning Kevin on to some metal that I thought would interest him. Some things he liked, others not so much, but this spark quickly became a flame. He had been itching to play some heavy stuff, but wasn't quite sure the direction to take. At this time Kevin helped me with a demo song I wanted to use for a business venture and he liked the sound of my voice. He then played for me a piece he had written and recorded over the course of 7 months, it was heavy, strange, wicked, deathy, as well as progressive. He had no lyrics for it and had no idea what he was going to do with it. Inspired by the song, I expressed interest in recording vocals and possibly starting a metal project. It was a long process of trial and error, writing lyrics, recording vocals, getting everything in it's place, but it was fun and exciting. The end result is "Embody The Awakened".
Pleased, but never satisfied, Kevin quickly churned out another song over the course of 4 days. This song was heavier, but still holding the deathy/progressive edge that is quickly becoming a signature to him. We bashed out the lyrics and recorded over the course of a couple weekends. Thus "Seclusion Demoralized" was born. Something was happening here, something very pleasing to us both. We were making this music to curb our creativity, but things were working better than expected. We decided at that point to create a band, give it a name and post it on myspace for all to hear. We gave ourselves a deadline and a limit of 3 songs, which became 4 songs and "Destruction Demise" and "Become Again" followed suit. At that point we decided that the songs deserved a world class rhythm section, so Kevin recruited former recording cohort Mick Linden for bass duties, and Dillen Eirnen for drums. We agreed on the persona of Days Of Lament, and metal was born!
This is our story. Days Of Lament has been alive for almost 4 months. We worked our asses off and now it is here to be enjoyed by all who wants it. Just 2 guys with a history, brought together by technology, a friendship rekindled and new music to share. We hope you enjoy it. It was made by metalheads for metalheads.
