My name is Molly. I am a 19 year old Pony of The Americas. During Hurricane Katrina I was displaced by my family. I was rescued by some very kind people. I really liked my new home, I had plenty of other horse friends to play with. One day a dog attacked me and I could not defend myself. He hurt me very badly.
The veterinarian tended to my wounds, but my hoof was not going to make it. Most horses could not live on three legs. I showed my new family that I was not ready to leave them. I wanted to fight. I wanted to SURVIVE. The wonderful vets at LSU amputated my forelimb. I now have a nice shiny prosthesis. It even has a smiley face on the bottom so there are a trail of smiles everywhere I go.
I now spend my days visitng with handicapped children and the elderly. I love my new found talent as a therapy pony. I get to bring hope and joy to others who may also have a disability. I think they know if I can make it, they can too.
My other job is to be the mascot for my person's up and coming nonprofit organization "Kids and Ponies". It is an organization dedicated to the education of children using retired ponies who deserve to still be loved and needed after they have outgrown their riding years...
