THIS PAGE IS SET UP TO HONOR OUR GRANDMOTHERS MEMORY AND THE LEGACY SHE LEFT BEHINDE FOR ALL OF US. SHE WAS A KIND AND LOVING WOMEN. WHO LOVED ALL WALKS OF LIFE. OUR GRANDMOTHER WAS A VERY INSPRIRATIONAL WOMEN WHO CHALLENGED OUR THOUGHTS ON CULTURE AND HISTORY. UNCI NELLIE WAS SO LOVING TO ALL HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS THAT HER MEMORY AND LIFE LESSONS, BUT MOST OF ALL HER VOICE AND TEACHINGS WILL FOR EVER LIVE .. HELP US HONOR HER AND LET THE WORLD KNOW HOW TRUELY SPECIAL SHE WAS TO THOSE OF HER WHO KNEW HER.In Loving Memory of Nellie Two Bulls (1926 - 2007) (Oglala Lakota) Pine Ridge, South DakotaMrs. Two Bulls was born and lived over 79 years in the Payabaya Community on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. She is a direct descendent of Chief Man Afraid of His Horse. Nellie was married to Matthew Two Bulls for over 50 years and together they had seven children. The family now includes 64 grandchildren and over 80 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and over 100 hunka children and grandchildren. At the age of 12 Nellie received her Indian name Zintkala To Win (Blue Bird Woman) through a vision in which she was given the gifts of Songs and Stories. Since this time she has dedicated her life to fulfilling this vision by teaching the culture, songs and traditions of the Lakota People. Nellie says, "My art is my ability to sing and tell stories about my people, the Oglala Lakota. I have spent the majority of my life telling stories, and singing the traditional Lakota songs. This is my contribution to preserving our culture."Zintkala To Win (Blue Bird Woman) through a vision in which she was given the gifts of Songs and Stories. Since this time she has dedicated her life to fulfilling this vision by teaching the culture, songs and traditions of the Lakota People. Nellie has not only shared her songs and stories with her people, but has traveled extensively throughout the United States. She has been called upon to sing at local Tribal gatherings, national conferences and a cherished moment is when she sang an honor song at a memorial service in remembrance of Robert Kennedy in Rhode Island."Grandmother Nellie's mind and spirit are sacred repositories for the songs and stories of the Lakota people. Her voiceUnci nellie raised 4 of her grand children 2 boys and 2 girls. Thomas Cuny whom passed away July 23, 2006. Nellie had Thomas since he was 9 months old. George Cuny whom still resdies at nellie's home in #4 community in Pine Ridge. Lynette Two Bulls who lives in Lame Deer Montana with her partner Philip White Man,Jr. They Too carry on the work and legacy of Unci Nellie. Lynette and Philip lead Alcohol and drug free lives. Autumn Dawn Conroy-Two Bulls was the youngest of the grand-children Nellie Raised. Autumn also carries on the legacy of her Unci Nellie by singing, with her voice. Nellie taught Autumn the traditional ways when she was just a small girl.Nellie Also had other special grand-children in her life. Her youngest son Zack Two Bull's children Korzack, Shelly, Ashley Two Bulls.
